Safety & Animal Welfare
At King Animal Encounters, creating a safe, positive experience for both our guests and our animal ambassadors is at the heart of every program. Our encounters are designed to encourage curiosity and hands-on learning while teaching respect for animals and responsible interaction with wildlife.
Safe, Supervised Interactions
All animal interactions are closely supervised by a King Animal Encounters representative.
Participation is always voluntary. No child or participant is ever required or pressured to touch or hold an animal. Guests are welcome to participate at their own comfort level, whether that means holding an animal, gently touching one, observing up close, or simply asking questions.
Before interacting with an animal, participants are shown how to safely and respectfully approach, touch, or hold that particular species. Animals are never intentionally placed near a participant's face or mouth, and participants are instructed not to kiss animals or engage in unsafe handling.
Hygiene & Handwashing
Reptiles, amphibians, and other animals can naturally carry bacteria, including Salmonella, even when they appear healthy. Good hygiene is an important part of every King Animal Encounter.
Participants are instructed to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water after animal contact and before eating or drinking. When soap and water are not immediately available, hand sanitizer may be used as a temporary measure until proper handwashing is possible.
Eating, drinking, and touching the face are discouraged during hands-on portions of our programs.
Animal carriers, equipment, and contact areas are also routinely cleaned and maintained using appropriate sanitation practices.
Animal Welfare Comes First
Our animal ambassadors are more than part of our programs. They are living animals entrusted to our care, and their health and well-being always come first.
Animals participating in educational encounters are carefully selected based on their species, temperament, health, and suitability for interaction. We monitor our animals throughout every program for signs of stress or discomfort and limit handling based on the individual animal's needs.
No animal is ever forced to participate. An animal may be given a break, changed to observation-only, or removed from a program at any time if we believe that is in its best interest.
Outside of programs, our animals receive species-appropriate housing, nutrition, temperature, enrichment, veterinary care when needed, and regular husbandry.
Respect Goes Both Ways
One of the most important lessons we can teach is that interacting with an animal is a privilege.
Participants are expected to follow instructions, remain calm around the animals, wait for permission before touching or holding, and treat every animal gently and respectfully.
We also encourage children to speak up. If a participant feels nervous or uncomfortable at any point, they are always welcome to step back and observe instead.
A Positive Experience for Everyone
We believe a successful animal encounter isn't measured by how many animals a child holds. It's measured by whether they leave with greater knowledge, curiosity, confidence, and respect for the natural world.
