About Our Animal Encounters
What is a King Animal Encounter?
King Animal Encounters brings live animal ambassadors directly to schools, libraries, homeschool groups, community organizations, camps, special events, private gatherings, and more.
Our programs combine engaging education with opportunities to see fascinating animals up close, ask questions, and participate in supervised hands-on interactions when appropriate.
What animals will we meet?
Our animal ambassadors include a variety of reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, and other fascinating species.
The exact animals attending each encounter may vary based on the type of program, audience, and the health, temperament, and comfort of our animals that day. Animal welfare always comes first, so we cannot guarantee that a particular animal will participate in every program.
How many animals are included in an encounter?
Our standard Animal Encounters typically feature approximately 4–8 live animal ambassadors.
The exact number may vary depending on the animals participating, the type of program, and the needs of the group.
How long does an Animal Encounter last?
Our standard in-person Animal Encounters are approximately 60–75 minutes.
We also offer Virtual Animal Encounters lasting up to 60 minutes and multiple-session packages for larger groups and organizations.
Are the encounters hands-on?
Yes! Hands-on learning is an important part of what we do.
When appropriate, participants will have supervised opportunities to touch or hold select animal ambassadors. The type of interaction depends on the individual animal, species, setting, and participants.
Does everyone have to touch or hold the animals?
Absolutely not. Participation is always voluntary.
Guests can enjoy an encounter by observing, asking questions, seeing the animals up close, or participating hands-on at their own comfort level. No participant is ever pressured or required to touch or hold an animal.
What ages are your programs appropriate for?
Our encounters can be adapted for a wide range of ages.
We adjust the presentation, discussion, questions, and interaction to suit the age and interests of the group. We offer everything from engaging introductions for young children to more detailed discussions of biology, ecology, adaptations, conservation, and animal care for older participants.
Can you customize an encounter for our group?
Yes! We love learning what interests a group before an encounter.
Let us know if you're particularly interested in certain animals or topics such as adaptations, habitats, reptiles, amphibians, conservation, responsible animal care, or another area of interest. While we can't guarantee a particular animal will participate, we'll do our best to create an experience that fits your group.
Booking, Pricing & Locations
How much does an Animal Encounter cost?
Our standard 60–75 minute Animal Encounter is $250 for groups of up to 30 participants.
Larger groups, multiple-session programs, virtual encounters, and other options are also available. Visit our Programs & Pricing page for complete and current pricing information.
How many people can participate?
We recommend groups of 30 participants or fewer for our standard Animal Encounter.
Smaller groups allow participants to see the animals closely, ask more questions, and have more meaningful opportunities to interact while also helping us maintain a calm environment for our animal ambassadors.
We can accommodate larger groups, and additional pricing may apply. For groups larger than 60, multiple sessions are generally recommended.
Why do you limit group sizes?
We want our encounters to be interactive experiences rather than simply animal demonstrations.
Manageable group sizes allow more individual engagement, better visibility, safer interactions, and a calmer environment. They also help reduce stress on our animals and allow us to provide the quality of experience we want every guest to receive.
How far do you travel?
King Animal Encounters is a mobile program, and we're happy to travel to schools, organizations, events, and private locations throughout our service area.
Travel availability and any applicable travel fees depend on the location of your event. Contact us with your location and we'll be happy to discuss availability and pricing.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking as early as possible, particularly for school programs, weekends, summer programs, and other popular dates.
That said, don't hesitate to contact us about a last-minute event. If our schedule allows, we'll be happy to work with you.
What do we need to provide at our location?
We ask hosts to provide a safe, appropriate presentation area with adequate space for participants and our animals.
The area should be away from excessive noise and heavy foot traffic when possible. Appropriate adult supervision and participant behavior support should also be available when working with groups of children.
King Animal Encounters brings the animal ambassadors, necessary animal equipment, educational materials, and handling guidance.
Do you offer virtual programs?
Yes! Our Virtual Animal Encounters are $100 for up to 60 minutes and allow participants to meet multiple animal ambassadors, ask questions, and enjoy an interactive educational experience from virtually anywhere.
Safety & Animal Welfare
Are Animal Encounters safe?
Participant safety and animal welfare are among our highest priorities.
All animal interactions are supervised, and participants receive instructions on appropriate handling before interacting with an animal. We also follow established hygiene, sanitation, and animal welfare procedures throughout our programs.

What hygiene precautions do you take?
Reptiles, amphibians, and other animals can naturally carry bacteria, including Salmonella, even when they appear healthy.
Participants are instructed to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water following animal contact and before eating or drinking. If soap and water are not immediately available, hand sanitizer may be used temporarily until proper handwashing is possible.
We also routinely clean and maintain animal carriers, equipment, and contact areas using appropriate sanitation practices.
Can participants eat or drink during an encounter?
We discourage eating and drinking during hands-on portions of our programs.
Participants should also avoid touching their face or mouth while interacting with animals and should wash their hands thoroughly before eating or drinking afterward.
How do you protect the animals during encounters?
Our animals are ambassadors, never props.
Animals are selected for educational interactions based on their species, temperament, health, and suitability. We monitor them throughout each program, limit handling when appropriate, and provide breaks based on their individual needs.
No animal is ever forced to participate.
What happens if an animal doesn't want to participate?
We listen to our animals.
If an animal shows signs that it needs a break or shouldn't participate that day, it may become observation-only, return to its carrier, or be removed from the program entirely.
The well-being of the animal will always take priority over our planned presentation.
What if my child or another participant is afraid of an animal?
That's completely okay!
Encounters are intended to encourage curiosity and respect, not force interaction. Participants are welcome to step back, observe from a comfortable distance, or choose not to interact with a particular animal.
Sometimes simply seeing an animal in a calm, controlled environment and learning more about it can be a meaningful experience.
Can we request a specific animal?
You're welcome to tell us about animals your group would especially love to meet, and we'll take those requests into consideration when planning your encounter.
However, we cannot guarantee the participation of a particular animal. Our animals' health, behavior, and comfort on the day of the program always come first.
Schools, Groups & Special Events
Do you offer programs specifically for schools?
Yes! We offer dedicated school programs that combine live animal encounters with science education and connections to classroom learning.

Are your school programs aligned with North Carolina Science Standards?
Our school programs are developed with classroom learning goals and the North Carolina Science Standards in mind.
We offer grade-appropriate opportunities to explore topics such as adaptations, animal classification, ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation, and responsible animal stewardship.
We're also developing grade-level specific science workbooks to provide additional learning opportunities before or after an encounter.
Do you work with homeschool groups?
Absolutely!
Individual homeschool families, homeschool groups, and co-ops are welcome. We can adjust an encounter to fit the ages, interests, and educational goals of your group.
Do you visit libraries, camps, clubs, and community organizations?
Yes. King Animal Encounters isn't limited to traditional classrooms.
We welcome opportunities to work with libraries, camps, homeschool organizations, youth groups, clubs, community organizations, senior communities, and other groups looking for an engaging animal experience.
Do you offer birthday parties and private events?
Yes. While education is at the heart of King Animal Encounters, our programs can also make a memorable addition to birthday celebrations, private gatherings, and special events.
Our approach remains the same: engaging, respectful, educational interaction with our animal ambassadors in a safe and supervised environment.
Animal Surrenders & Supporting Our Animals
Do you accept animal surrenders?
King Animal Encounters may be able to accept certain animals that owners are no longer able to care for.
Our ability to accept an animal depends on the species, its individual needs, temperament, health, available space, and our ability to provide appropriate long-term care. Not every surrendered animal will necessarily be appropriate for educational programs.
If we aren't the right home for an animal, we're happy to help point owners toward appropriate rescues, shelters, or other resources when possible.
Please contact us before bringing or transferring any animal.
Can I donate to support the animals?
Yes, and we're incredibly grateful for the support.
Donations help provide appropriate housing, heating and lighting, substrate, food, enrichment, veterinary care when needed, and other supplies for our animal ambassadors. Donations can be especially helpful when we accept surrendered animals whose existing setup or care needs to be upgraded.
